System One Facilities Maintenance Technician in Mt. Arlington, New Jersey

Life Sciences company is looking for a PT Facilities Maintenance Technician.

Position Summary

  • Facilities Maintenance Technician will be responsible for performing a wide variety of custodial and maintenance duties to provide a safe, clean, and functional work environment.

  • Also responsible for troubleshooting and performing minor repairs, working closely with employees to meet reasonable needs, resolving problems to ensure efficient and safe operations, and assisting with events.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Perform periodic inspections of building and property to evaluate functional systems, detect malfunctions and document accordingly for repair

    • Perform minor electrical maintenance to include but not limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g., wall switches, outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs/tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, appliances, etc.) using appropriate hand, power, and specialty tools • Perform minor plumbing maintenance (e.g., replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, replacing drains hoses, etc.)

    • Perform minor surface preparation, painting, carpentry, and masonry work to provide operable and efficient facilities

    • Assist in performing minor HVAC work (e.g., adjusting thermostats, pneumatic controls, HVAC, filter replacement and electric energy management systems) to maintain a comfortable working environment and proper equipment operation

    • Perform or oversee scheduled maintenance on facility system(s) and support equipment

    • Ability to check the functionality of safety systems (e.g., fire alarms, and building access)

    • Performs seasonal and project related tasks (e.g., assistance preparing for trade shows and company events)

    • Coordinate, oversee and facilitate external repair technicians if required

    • Participate in construction related activities as required, including ordering materials to facilitate repairs

    • Manage vendors and contracts, including landscaper, snow removal, electrician, plumber, and roofer; assist in the planning and negotiation of such contracts

    • Order and manage supplies for the facility and stock items necessary for custodial and maintenance activities, including the food & beverage dispensers

    • Accept deliveries and ensure items reach the appropriate destination (e.g., organized for stock, end user receipt, etc.)

    • Adjust work assignment/priorities based on information from management and current work assessment

    • Bring initiatives and activities to closure in a timely manner through effective interaction with individuals, both internal and external as required

    • Abide by all safety, quality, housekeeping, and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance to all regulatory and internal system requirements

    • Maintain a building operation manual to include detailed information related to the operations of the facility, including active vendors, contracts, schematics, etc.

    • Contribute to a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication at all levels internal and external to the organization

    • Actively participate in team meetings, improvement initiatives/programs, etc. and support actions to drive company initiatives/goals

    • Keep management informed of area activities and of any significant problems

    Qualifications and Skills

    • Education or certification in related discipline is preferred, or proven experience in similar position

    • Experienced with; Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC

    • Experience with painting and prep work

    • Experience using hand and power tools

    • Ability to interpret technical data requirements, specifications, and schematics

    • Possess strong visual acuity required for detailed inspection and repair activities

    • Self-motivated with ability to effectively interface with varying level of employees, both through written and verbal communication

    • Strong time management skills, attention to detail and thoroughness

    • Ability to follow safety procedures

    • Physical stamina and dexterity

    • Must be able to lift a minimum of 30lbs

    • Must have valid driver’s license and car

    • Computer literate, with MS Office/PC experience

    Work Expectations

    • This is a part-time position for approximately 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Flexible work schedule. Overtime and weekend work may be required, as job duties require. Non-exempt position.

    Required Travel

    • Required travel will be no more than 10%
